About Our Approach


World health organizations and the federal government are calling for improved public health promotion strategies in order to reduce healthcare costs and help an aging and longer-living population make informed choices about their health. People, both sick and healthy, need assistance changing their lifestyles. Our training programs use an innovative approach to health and well-being to answer this call.

Integrative and interdisciplinary

Our approach begins with an integrative and interdisciplinary perspective, drawing on the work and expertise of our Institute. This approach values the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of health in order to address the whole person.

whole-person emphasis

In our training programs, we combine rigorous training in both mental and physical health. We emphasize mental health care, rather than mental illness care, assessing individuals’ temperament and character in order to help them change the root causes of their problems and work on transcending their issues.

transcendence through movement

We have collaborated with choreographers and analysts of movement to design a one-of-a-kind Body Awakening program, which allows participants to deepen their understanding of the body through movement, coordination exercises, and contemporary dance techniques.

humanities, Art, and Culture

In addition, we examine the role that art and culture (and all the humanities) play in our health. If we do not understand how humanity has approached health and well-being throughout the centuries, our own health and well-being is incomplete. As Cicero wrote in his Orator, “To be ignorant of what occurred before you were born is to remain always a child. For what is the worth of human life, unless it be woven into the life of our ancestors by the records of history?”

the know yourself DVD Series

At the heart of our method is the Know Yourself DVD series, which is a course in well-being designed to help people increase self-understanding, manage stress, and find deeper contentment in their lives. It teaches exercises to foster calmness, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, and mind-body health. This DVD series is incorporated into the training programs we have developed.

(for Personal Development)

Discover how to cultivate a state of sustainable well-being and learn how to live a healthier, fuller life. This program is intended for individuals seeking to improve their own well-being. Participants must complete the following one-year 265-hour course:


Well-Being Coach Certification Program

(for Professional Development)

Become a coach and teach others about sustainable health and well-being. This program is intended for those in the helping professions—such as counselors, social workers, community health workers, and educators—seeking to become certified coaches. Participants must complete the following one-year 265-hour course plus an additional 20-hour training practicum:


Community Organization Training Program

(for Community Organizations)

Partner with us to train your staff and improve your programs. We partner with organizations that serve at-risk populations, such as nonprofits and schools, in order to increase their efficacy. Based on the specific goals of the organization, we may recommend different programs.


TCI Training Program

(for Researchers)

Get trained on the using the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI). This program is intended for researchers interested in using the TCI in their work.
