The To You, Being of the Future series blends documentary and narrative filmmaking to explore a selection of historical figures whose legacies are as rich as the lives they led. The To You, Being of the Future film series currently consists of three feature-length films and accompanying soundtracks.

Part I explores the life of Leonardo da Vinci through the eyes of a young man named Michael. While traveling in France, Michael discovers a hidden manuscript that invites him on a journey in pursuit of the “carriers of light.” The manuscript first has him visit Italy to immerse himself in the wonders of Leonardo’s timeless accomplishments, which include 7,000 pages of notes and drawings, and more than a dozen paintings. Coming into contact with such an exceptional being, Michael awakens to a new world of art and culture. He discovers Leonardo the artist, inventor, and thinker, as well as the places where this mysterious man lived. This film, the first in the series, examines the nature of art and explores some of the keys to self-discovery.

While visiting the French and Italian towns where Petrarch lived (including Avignon, Pisa, Padua, Bologna, and Parma), Michael discovers the poetry, thought, and faith of this extraordinary man, whose works include The Solitary Life, Remedies for Fortune Fair and Foul, My Secret, and the Canzoniere, which is one of the most celebrated collections of lyric poetry in the Western tradition. In this film, the second in the series, Michael gains fundamental insights into human nature and the value of culture.

Through Homer’s life and work, he discovers various cultures, a new vision of art, and the roots of Western civilization. He continues to undergo an inner transformation, which unveils for him another aspect of the world.
